ACS Executive Director and CEO Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS, welcomes Clinical Congress 2022 attendees. The preeminent gathering of surgeons from around the world has outstanding education for surgeons at every career stage. The in-person Congress also provides unparalleled networking opportunities.
Convocation is tonight, and the ceremony will be livestreamed so that a worldwide audience may experience the celebration in real time. Along with the installation of new officers, including E. Christopher Ellison, MD, FACS, MAMSE, as ACS President, a record 2,355 initiates from 77 countries will be inducted.
The highest honor presented by the ACS Board of Regents recognizes exceptional and continuous service as an ACS Fellow, as well as a career distinguished by devotion to patient care and the principles and ideals that guide all surgeons. Mark A. Malangoni, MD, FACS, will be honored with the award during Convocation.
Throughout her distinguished career, Ernestine Hambrick, MD, FACS, earned many firsts, including being the first woman Diplomate of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the first woman on the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons executive council. Tonight, she will become the first colon-rectal surgeon to receive the Inspiring Women in Surgery Award.
Innovative and leading-edge educational opportunities for surgeons at every career stage and for the entire surgical team are available through Postgraduate Courses and Meet-the-Expert Sessions. An additional fee is required to register for each kind of programming.
The 2-day Surgery Resident Program begins today. Timely topics to help ease the transition from residency into a surgeon’s first post-residency job and beyond fill the schedule. Speakers will offer insight into contract negotiation, effective allyship in the workplace, financial security, and the dynamics of starting a family as a surgeon.
Stephen Yang, MD, Chair of the ACS Committee on Medical Student Education, describes the Medical Student Program as a “one-stop shop” to learn how to become a good surgery resident, how to get into a good surgery residency, and how medical students can take care of themselves for the future.
Pediatric surgeon Henri R. Ford, MD, FACS, is renowned for his groundbreaking research in necrotizing enterocolitis, significant history of extramural funding, and his reputation for mentorship and sponsorship. At tonight’s Convocation ceremony, he will receive the Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum Award.
