Volunteer and enjoy member engagement
activities at Clinical Congress 2017

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) is offering a variety of ways to stay active and help the community while you attend Clinical Congress 2017.

Volunteer opportunity

The ACS is teaming up with Feeding San Diego (FSD) to provide an opportunity for Clinical Congress attendees and guests to give back to the community through the FSD BackPack Program. On Tuesday, 1:00–3:00 pm in the Manchester Grand Hyatt, ACS volunteers will decorate 2,500 backpacks and fill them with essential food items for distribution to children and families in need. The $25 registration fee for this program will help offset the cost of supplies, transportation/distribution, and other administrative costs. Visit the Registration Desk to sign up and help us reach our goal.

Wellness events

Although racing from session to session will help you burn calories during the meeting, the ACS is also offering a variety of wellness activities throughout the week, including running and walking tours that will offer the opportunity to explore San Diego, early morning yoga, and a spin class to start your day. Visit the Registration Desk to sign up.

On Sunday at 2:00 pm and Tuesday at 6:00 am, the ACS Running and Walking Tours will provide the perfect opportunity for a combination of sightseeing, exercise, and social interaction for runners and walkers at all levels of experience. Starting at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel, participants will be divided into small groups based on their desired pace and will be led by a professional guide on a 5K route along the coastline and through historical San Diego. Each 5K tour will have one guide designated for walkers for those who prefer to enjoy the experience at a more leisurely pace. Stops will be made along the way to enjoy the sights, and water will be provided. The registration fee is $10.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:00–7:00 am, start your day with the physical, mental, and spiritual practice of yoga. These programs will take place at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel and are adaptable to all ability levels, including first-timers. A complimentary yoga mat, which will be yours to keep, will be provided. The registration fee is $10.

California Casual Day/Taste of the City

Wednesday is California Casual Day. Casual attire is acceptable for the day and will allow you to easily transition from your educational programming throughout the day to the ACS Taste of the City event.

Taste of the City will take place Wednesday, 5:30–7:30 pm at the San Diego Marriott Marquis Hotel, Marina Terrace. Join your colleagues for an opportunity to experience San Diego’s beautiful waterfront and sunset while networking with other Clinical Congress attendees. Bring your appetite and plan to enjoy live music, fun activities, and camaraderie with ACS leaders, staff, friends, and family members.

The ACS Taste of the city is complimentary to all Clinical Congress attendees and their family members, and is just a five-minute walk from the San Diego Convention Center. Indicate on the registration page if you plan to attend. Casual dress is encouraged. We hope to see you there!

ACS Surgeons Who Selfie Contest

The ACS is in the business of connecting young surgeons with leaders, local surgeons with international peers, and mentors with mentees. Together we collaborate, innovate, inspire—and have fun. Make plans to participate in this year’s Surgeons Who Selfie Contest during the meeting and show the surgical community all that the Clinical Congress has to offer. A raffle of three iPad minis will be held for attendees who take and post the most selfies. Use the hashtags #ACSCC17 and #CC17selfie to participate.
