Immediate Past Executive Director David B. Hoyt, MD, FACS, MAMSE, begins the 2022 Named Lecture Series this morning with a look back at more than a decade of growth for the College and his hopes for the future the specialty.
“My talk will be about the opportunity the College presents to expand involvement in our profession. It will reflect the College’s opportunities and challenges with a positive and upbeat message for overcoming the dissonance we see today,” explained Dr. Hoyt, whose 12-year tenure as ACS Executive Director ended December 31.
Prior to his role as Executive Director, Dr. Hoyt chaired the ACS Committee on Trauma and was the ACS Medical Director of Trauma. His long and distinguished career as a trauma surgeon and leader was spent primarily at the University of California (UC) San Diego and UC Irvine, where he remains an emeritus professor of surgery.
The Martin Memorial Lecture begins at 9:00 am in Hall F of the San Diego Convention Center and will be livestreamed for registrants who could not attend. The on-demand version will be available within an hour after presentation.
Following the lecture, a meet and greet with Dr. Hoyt will be held in Room 23A, where he will answer questions in an informal setting and engage in candidate conversations with attendees.
Established in 1946 to honor American College of Surgeons founder Franklin H. Martin, MD, FACS, and his wife, Isabelle Hollister Martin, the Martin Memorial Lecture has been combined with the American Urological Association (AUA) Lecture, which was established in 1967, and has highlighted diverse topics in surgery. It is sponsored by the AUA and alternately nominated by the Advisory Council for Urology and the Board of Regents Honors Committee.
