Catch Up on Announcements from Clinical Congress 2022

In addition to a world-class academic and educational program for surgeons, Clinical Congress 2022 featured announcements of a bold ACS-wide initiative, a new resource, and new College leaders.

“The Power of Quality,” a New ACS Campaign

At the Opening Ceremony, ACS Executive Director and CEO Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS, introduced and previewed the College’s new quality campaign, “Power of Quality,” which will build on ACS’s more than 100 years as the preeminent voice on surgical quality.

“We want our surgeons to always feel empowered to do what’s right for our patients, and when we ground our work in quality improvement and push ourselves and our institutions to get better, then that’s the power of quality in action,” Dr. Turner said.

The dynamic, multiyear campaign will empower all stakeholders on the quality journey—driving greater adoption of ACS Quality Programs with more hospitals, increasing surgeon engagement, advocating for the use of ACS quality metrics in public policy, and ensuring that patients recognize the excellence of ACS programs and seek care from its surgical quality partners.

To help hospitals promote their participation in ACS quality programs, Dr. Turner unveiled the new Surgical Quality Partner diamond—a visual symbol to represent the ACS standards of quality and drive recognition of the leadership role that the ACS plays in surgical quality.

SESAP 18 Helps You Build Your Ideal Surgical Education

The ACS continues to evolve its surgical education resources with Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP®) 18, which launched at Clinical Congress 2022. Several new features have been added to SESAP 18 to enhance personalized education and promote expertise.

The new SESAP Small Bites feature allows subscribers to receive links to SESAP 18 questions via email by selecting the frequency and desired topic areas. For the first time, SESAP subscribers will be able to create personalized assessments that randomly select questions from across one or more specified categories. Participants will be able specify the number of questions, the category or categories to be used, and whether to select only questions that were answered incorrectly.

SESAP 18 users also will find familiar options, including the ability to highlight and save text, bookmark and notate content in custom library folders, target searches quickly across categories, and compare scores and answer selections with peers.
