The Commission on Cancer (CoC) recognized two State Chairs for their outstanding performance in 2019: Quyen Chu, MD, FACS, Louisiana State Chair and CoC Committee on Cancer Liaison Vice-Chair; and James McCormick, DO, FACS, Pennsylvania State Chair.

The State Chair Outstanding Performance Award recognizes individuals who exhibit outstanding leadership and innovation, and who make significant contributions to the improvement of cancer care in his or her state or region. As State Chairs, they are responsible for supporting CoC-accredited cancer programs in their state, communicating with the Cancer Liaison Physician champions serving in those programs, and collaborating with partners such as the American College of Surgeons Chapter, American Cancer Society regional staff, and the state Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition.

The winners of this year’s award will be recognized virtually at the State Chair Town Hall meeting on Thursday, October 22.
