Tune in for the ACS Convocation tonight


Clinical Congress attendees are encouraged to view the virtual Convocation tonight, October 24, 6:00 pm−8:00 pm Central Time. During the ceremony, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) will confer Fellowship upon those surgeons who have successfully met ACS requirements to provide optimal care to the surgical patient. The 2020-2021 ACS President, J. Wayne Meredith, MD, FACS, MCCM, will serve as the Presiding Officer.

The first Convocation ceremony took place November 13, 1913, at the Congress Hotel in Chicago, IL. The inaugural class of 1,059 surgeons hailed from the U.S. and Canada and included six female surgeons. The 2021 class, the largest ever, includes more than 2,300 Initiates from the U.S., Canada, and around the globe.

The Convocation also includes recognition of the College’s new Honorary Fellows, presentation of the ACS Distinguished Service Award and other honors, the installation of the ACS Officers, and the Presidential Address by our 102nd President, Julie A. Freischlag, MD, FACS, FRCSEd(Hon), DFSVS, chief executive officer of Wake Forest Baptist Health, dean of Wake Forest School of Medicine, and chief academic officer of Atrium Health Enterprise, Winston-Salem, NC.

The ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators aims to recognize preeminent surgeon educators from across the House of Surgery and engage them in innovative programs of the Academy.
